Introducing The Dalmore: Luminary Series No.2 2024 Edition

We have previously discussed the prestigious three-year Luminary Series by Dalmore, which brings together luminaries from the worlds of whisky and architecture. Curated in partnership with the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) Dundee, Scotland’s design museum, each release in the Luminary Series aims to “bring visionary design talent to the fore” through a bespoke showcase of a unique bottling by The Dalmore’s whisky makers.

The inaugural release, launched in 2022, was created by acclaimed architects Kengo Kuma and Maurizio Mucciola, in collaboration with Master Distiller Richard Paterson OBE and Master Whisky Maker Gregg Glass.

The Dalmore has recently unveiled the second release in The Dalmore Luminary Series: The Luminary 2024 Edition collection. Similar to the 2022 release, the 2024 collection features two whiskies — The Rare and The Collectible — both Highland single malts housed in glass amber sculptures and exquisite presentation cases.

The 'Rare'

Born from the collaboration between Master Whisky Maker Gregg Glass, Master Distiller Richard Paterson OBE, and Melodie Leung of Zaha Hadid Architects, this unique partnership of form and flavour produced three decanters of 49 Year Old Single Malt, with two encased in a breathtaking glass sculpture designed by Melodie Leung.

Bottled at 40.6% ABV, The Rare 2024 Edition was matured in American white oak ex-Bourbon casks and finished with an unparalleled combination of rare Port Colheita 1963, 30-year-old Apostoles sherry, and select Bourbon, then completed in a 1951 virgin oak hybrid cask, air-dried and hand-toasted by Gregg Glass himself.

Only one decanter of The Dalmore Luminary – The Rare 2024 Edition, housed in Melodie Leung’s sculpture, will be available for ownership and is set to be auctioned at Sotheby’s on 31st May 2024. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to V&A Dundee. A second complete set will be held at The Dalmore Distillery, and one decanter will be reserved for a final Luminary Series Compendium Edition No. 1, 2, and 3.

The 'Collectible'

Matured in American white oak ex-Bourbon casks, this 16 Year Old whisky is finished in Graham’s Tawny Port pipes and 30 year old Apostoles sherry casks, with a delicate touch of exceptionally rare peated Dalmore. The Collectible 2024 Edition was bottled at 48.6% ABV and is limited to 20,000 bottles globally.

Each bottle is housed in a stunning contemporary presentation case, evoking a bird's-eye perspective of The Rare sculpture, akin to a vortex. Inspired by whisky stills, the design is rich with texture and warm copper colours, offering a beautiful display for the bottle.

Both releases from this year's Luminary edition blend the signature styles of Zaha Hadid Architects and The Dalmore, seamlessly combining form and flavour.
